Capcom account breach: watch for fake Capcom emails

23 Oct 2026, 06:03 1 min read

The short version

Capcom has confirmed hackers got email addresses and some account details from 11,774,247 CAPCOM ID records worldwide. Card details were not included, but the data could be used for fake emails pretending to be Capcom.

What happened

CAPCOM ID is the single account used to reach Capcom's web services and to play some of its games online. Capcom spotted suspicious activity on 19 October 2026 and blocked it. It says it has identified and addressed the attack method, and has told police in Japan.

Besides email addresses, the records show when each account was made, the last login time, the number of logins and the internet address used at the last login. For 43 records, date of birth, gender, country and nickname were also taken.

On 196 accounts, passwords were changed without permission. Capcom has reset them. It has not confirmed any compromise of passwords customers set themselves.

Why it matters to you

Capcom warns the stolen information could be misused to send fake emails or messages pretending to be Capcom. These may push you to click a link or open a file.

Games and CAPCOM ID services still work. Capcom will contact affected customers, so genuine emails will arrive too, and any link in an email deserves care.

What to do

Do not click links or open attachments in unexpected messages that mention Capcom. Go to the official Capcom website by typing the address yourself.

Capcom has not asked for it, but changing your CAPCOM ID password is a sensible precaution. Do not reuse it elsewhere. For questions in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Capcom's support form is at capcom-support.com, or email [email protected].
