iOS 27.2 fixes over 160 security flaws: update your iPhone and iPad
The short version
Apple has released iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, which fix more than 160 security flaws. Apple does not say any are being used in attacks, but details are now public, so installing the update soon is sensible.
What happened
The update covers many parts of the phone, including more than 30 fixes in WebKit, the engine behind web browsing, and about 15 in the kernel, the core of the operating system. One Apple Intelligence flaw could have let a remote attacker reach sensitive data. A Hide My Email bug could have leaked a user's real email address.
Apple's notes list iPhone 11 and later, plus many recent iPad models. Apple Intelligence fixes apply to iPhone 15 Pro and later.
People who have not moved to iOS 27 are covered too. Apple has released iOS 26.7.2, which carries many of the same fixes.
Why it matters to you
With the details published, devices that are not updated could be open to attack.
Many of the flaws let a rogue app reach private information. Others let a booby-trapped image or video crash an app, or a calendar invitation corrupt memory. Updating closes these routes.
What to do
Install iOS 27.2 or iPadOS 27.2 as soon as you can.
If your device has not moved to iOS 27, install iOS 26.7.2 instead.
