Gemini can now edit your PDFs and documents inside the chat
The short version
Google has added file editing to the Gemini app. You can create a PDF, document or spreadsheet in the chat, check it, and change it there. It is available to all users where Gemini is offered.
What happened
Gemini could already produce files such as PDFs, Word and Excel files, and Google Docs and Sheets from a prompt. But you had to export them and make changes elsewhere.
Now you can open a file in the chat, expand it to full screen and type changes yourself. You can also highlight a passage and ask Gemini to rewrite it, answer a question about it, or change a visual.
PDF editing works on both the web and mobile. Google Docs, Google Sheets, slide decks, Markdown and text files, and code can only be edited on the web version for now.
Why it matters to you
For a small business, this means a first draft of a quote, price list or letter can be made and tidied in one place. You no longer need to copy text between apps or start over when one line is wrong.
The phone limit matters. If you work mostly from a phone, only PDFs can be edited. Anything else needs a computer or the web version. Always read the result before sending it, especially prices and figures.
What to do
Try it on a low-risk job, such as a simple price list or a standard letter. Use a computer if you want to edit a Google Doc or spreadsheet.
Check every name, number and total before a file goes to a customer, and keep your own copy of important documents.
